Lawn Grasses

The lawn is the best exhibit for any estate owner, the turf is the pride of a soccer club, and the green is the showcase of any golf course operator. Lawns have to respond to many demands. Lawn is expected to be of a nice, deep green, dense, hard-wearing for sports uses, etc. In the past two decades, the breeding of turf grasses has made enormous progress, bringing noticeable advantages to the owner of a private garden just as to the professional green keeper.

DSV is the European market leader in turf grass breeding. DSV premium grass varieties regularly come out on top of all important turf grass trials in Europe. Due to their quality, they can be found in many professional soccer stadiums. They are also ideal components in lawn mixtures for many different applications – be it sports turfs or golf courses, parking lots or home gardens.

There are breeding programmes for perennial rye-grass (Lolium perenne), red fescue (Festuca rubra), Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis), and tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea).

The breeding objectives of DSV are the following:

  • physical appearance
  • hard-wearing turf
  • capacity for regeneration
  • sward density
  • leaf texture (fine width leaves)
  • tolerance to close mowing
  • colour
  • slow growth
  • disease resistances
  • adaptation to site and climatic characteristics
  • hardiness
